Training Ace 2018 in silver went to the Regional Initiative for Vocational Training (RIB)

We are actively combating the shortage of skilled workers! The Regional Initiative for Vocational Training (RIB) in the Neckar-Odenwald district, an association of 16 training companies from industry, was founded for this purpose. Now, in December, RIB was awarded the 2018 Training Ace Silver Award in Berlin.

This year, for the 22nd time, the initiative of Young German Business – an association of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Germany and the Juniors of the Skilled Crafts – and the INTER Insurance Group awarded the Training Ace to Germany’s best trainers. In the three categories, the training companies and training initiatives placed receive cash prizes of between €500 and €2,500.

The Regional Initiative for Vocational Training (RIB) in the Neckar-Odenwald district, an association of 16 training companies from industry, applied for this year’s award in the “Training Initiatives” category. For all 3 categories (trade, services and industry – crafts – training initiatives) 143 companies or initiatives had applied nationwide.

On 13.12.2018, the official award ceremony took place at the Ministry of Economics in Berlin. Six representatives of RIB had also traveled to Berlin and were eager to attend. After a welcoming address by Christian Hirte, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and a panel discussion – interrupted by a fire alarm – the time had come: the award winners were each presented after a short laudatory speech. Michael Schillinger, Chief Sales Officer of the INTER Insurance Group, put it in a nutshell: “Get in touch with the skilled workers of tomorrow at an early stage and provide comprehensive information about the advantages of an apprenticeship. A forward-thinking and commendable approach, says the jury! That’s why we’re awarding the Regional Initiative for Vocational Training (RIB) with the Training Ace in Silver and say congratulations!”

The idea and commitment of the Regional Vocational Training Initiative, which was founded in 2015, was worth the Silver Training Ace 2018 and a cash prize of €1,500 to the jury. The representatives of the initiative proudly accepted the award on behalf of the training companies united in the RIB; at the same time, the representatives had the opportunity to briefly present the idea and the concept of the RIB once again and to answer questions.

After the obligatory photo session that followed, the RIB representatives visited Alois Gehrig, member of the Bundestag, in his office in the House of Representatives and reported on the initiative and the prize awarded.

Idea and concept:

With its concept, RIB aims to combat the general shortage of skilled workers and offer young people the prospect of attractive opportunities in a training occupation. Those responsible for the initiative see the root of the problem as early as the primary school years. Many parents are still under the misapprehension that a secondary school diploma is no longer worth anything. Apprenticeships seem to be just as unattractive. For this reason, representatives of RIB regularly go to parents’ evenings to present the project and the development opportunities in an apprenticeship in industry to the parents of fourth-graders.
